Soccer gala day at Sawtell

22/07/2008 11:01:00 AM
Bellingen Football Club (Soccer) players recently showcased their developing skills at the Sawtell Football Club Gala Day at Toormina. Two Under 7s and two Under 8s teams joined in the Small Sided Games carnival with all players playing at least 4 games. All players gave their best and showed great sportsmanship with one of the Under 8’s team final runners-up to Sawtell. One of the Under 7s teams played great soccer and narrowly missed the final. This team included Oscar Sutton, Sam Schellenberger, Max Murphy, Max Shaw, Will Hunter, Alex Watt, and Toby Edman. The other Bellingen Under 7s team were undefeated and showed strong defensive skills against a very strong Urunga team to win the Final. Kiahn Lane showed fantastic attacking skills and strong passing as did Ned Dillon, who tackled very well and refused to give up! With the help of teammates, Tom Miller was able to score the first goal with a strong straight kick in the nets. The second half saw Bellingen increase their lead with a great goal from Lucas Brown and continued strong defence from Jack Pregnall , Sam Rowe and Gus Miller. Finally, the hooter went leaving the Bellingen boys with a deserved 2-0 win and parents exhausted from cheering. Thanks to all the parents for their commitment to take children along and thanks to the coaches of the two Under 7’s teams, Tim Sutton and Ian Dillon.
