Magpies pluck the Roosters

22/07/2008 11:00:00 AM
The Bellingen/Dorrigo Magpies recorded their biggest win of the year against the struggling Nambucca Roosters winning 74 points to 16.

In a game that featured some excellent attacking football the Bello forwards laid the foundation for the backs to run riot with the "little general" Josh White orchestrating every move. Running into yawning chasms all day the Bello outside backs had a field day as General Josh hit them on the chest every time. Coach Robinson scored four tries and Tyson Morris three with every other player one try a piece including Glydie, Oz and Rusty.

Cameron Blair kicked 411 goals.

With big Cody Taggart and Berty Gray out injured it was thought the pack may struggle for yards however Blair Sankey, Jude Erskine and Dave Hart all made sure that each set of six started with good go forward, big Dave even managed to run 100m for a try that was clocked at a blistering 2minutes 47seconds. Adding to this were Joel Cleary and Josh Young off the bench however the standout in attack was Craig Millan who thankfully is only being paid per win and not metre as he ran further than Forrest Gump each time he was given the ball.

As mentioned Josh White showed his class including his effort when substituted in the second half continuing up to the church end where he mingled with the crowd, signed autographs for the kids, drank three cans and sang the team song early before heading to the showers with ten minutes left to play.

All players went well against a disappointing Nambucca side who cannot wait for the final round however the astute judging panel of Messers Darby and Neaves gave "Scotchy" Millan their MVP award.

The Reggies won easily 38 - 4 whilst the 18's went down 40 - 18. No details of these earlier games were available at time of print as yours truly spent the entire two earlier games washing cars and mowing lawns for the fun cops.

Pen in the 3rd of August all you lovers of Rugby League as "the graveyard", also known as Bellingen Park has just won the most historic ground in Group 2 award as part of the ARL's Centenary of Rugby League Celebrations. The day will be massive with all past players invited to help celebrate the occasion so get on the phone and ring the boys, break open the cunning kick and shout the missus and kids a holiday that weekend. The Graveyard is the place to be for the Magpies last home game of the season against Macksville.

Many previous players have already got into the spirit of things for the day with Business tycoon and former flying winger for the Maggies Gavin Brown having a buy one get one free offer at the Diggers Drive Past bottle shop although Gavin was quick to remind me the offer applies only on bottles of Green Ginger wine which he normally retails for $44.50. See you all on the 3rd of August.
