The significance of Bellingen to Rugby League history is set to be formally recognised at Bellingen Park on Sunday August 3. Bronze plaques commissioned by the Australian Rugby League to mark the historical significance of the grounds to the 100-year history of Rugby League are being presented this year. Bellingen Park has been selected to receive this coveted award. Rugby League commenced on the Park in 1946.
On Sunday August 3 at Bellingen Park the Bellinger Valley Dorrigo Magpies will paly their last home game for the season against the Macksville Sea Eagles.
The day will centre around the Centenary plaque being presented to the BVDRLFC and to the Bellingen Shire by Officials from Country Rugby League.
The club is extending an open invitation to everyone who wishes to attend and celebrate this momentous occasion. The day will be in the form of a mini reunion for past players and all involved throughout the years. Kiosk workers, ground workers, sponsors and supporters and any person wising to attend for a great day of comraderie.
The Club would like all persons to contact former players and supporters to inform them of the day. Already players of the undefeated Clayton Cup team of 1981 have indicated they will be in attendance. Many other former players are travelling from all over to renew old acquaintances.
The gates will open at 9am. A junior League fixture will open the agenda at 10am. The first match against Macksville will commence at 11am with the remaining two games following throughout the afternoon. The Centenary Plaque will be presented prior to 1st Grade. The Club would like former players and supporters to wear their club colours, Guernseys jackets and blazers. Black and White theme.
The kiosk will be open at 9am with food and light refreshments. With limited formalities the day is centred about renewing old memories and friendships. At the conclusion of the day everyone is welcome at the Diggers Tavern for a drink with the present players. The Cub is intending to make the last home game each season as a Back To Bello Day and is hoping for some volunteers to organise this one day a year.
