Top of the table clash

11/11/2008 7:54:00 AM
The top of the table clash between neighbouring towns Bellingen and Dorrigo took place on Sat. at Connell Park under threatening clouds which eventually stopped play after 41 overs in a one-day affair.

We won the toss and batted with m "hollywood" Harrison and evergreen Maurice "only one in that" Hulbert facing a barrage of short stuff and after surving the fire Sam's eyes lit up to a slow ball and skied one to be dismissed for 3.

Julian"mumbles" Hulbert didnt want to bat with dad and was caught second ball when he picked out Harvey at square leg who done a circus act before claiming the catch.Nic "grass" Hopper then joined Maurice and reluctantly settled for singles when hit to the outfield and between them dug us out of trouble and soaked up some overs before Maurie skied one and was caught for 24.

Louis "I’m changing in the toilet" Balenzano got a good one off wiley Billy" stay at first slip next time" Saker and was gone without scoring so Scott "only one and a half in that" Hulbert joined Nic.

Together they settled in until Scott was drawn out of his crease to be brilliantly stumped by Doc "wally grout" Ellis for 12 and the game swung back to Dorrigo again. Bruce "lets be an idiot and run three" Mills joined Nic and steadied the ship before Nic was Wally's second victim to the leg spinning Geoff "eye" Lean who was troubling all batsmen and the game evened out again.

Simon "M.A. Noble was next in and soon fired up the Jumbo to slap the ball to all parts of the ground in a quick-fire 19 lifting the run-rate and getting us up to a respectable total.

Billy "naked men yuk" Mills was next in after his feet cooled down and stuck with dad for a few overs until getting bogged down and lashing out to be bowled and with 6 overs left Andy "I’m a lawyer but i don’t know the rules" Munro came to the crease.

His stay was short lived with the skies opening up in the 41st over and at 1no. still doesnt have an average. You will Andy dont worry!!! Our score 8/159 and an early drink at the sponsors establishment to ponder what might of been.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
