Bellingen eel fishing championships were held during the week 6th – 12th October. There were 31 competitors mostly young children and only (1) eel was weighed in each day for each competitor. A Rod & Reel – kindly donated by Fishing Tackle Australia - was given to the competitor with the liveliest eel on each day, as we release the eels alive back into the river. Some 400kg of eels were caught during the week, with Jordaine Osland getting $50 Prize for the most weight of eels 38.25kg. Jordaine also won the “Waterhole Wal” Trophy for the best eel for the week – 8.8kg.
