Back to Urunga

4/11/2008 10:52:00 AM
Footballers return to Urunga Gathering at the Ocean View on the last Saturday in October were those who over the past few years have returned for football reunions. Now widened to an annual Back To Urunga get-together, this inaugural one was well attended and all were made welcome by the hotel's mine hosts who photographed the lovely cake provided by Colleen Smith (Casey) and cut by Elder Tom Kelly and Nora Gossip. Geoff (Bowie) Bracken's birthday was also celebrated and Geoff Young took the opportunity to thank everyone for their condolences over the recent passing of his late wife, Dulcie. Many of the old Urunga families such as Lowrie, Walker, Inskip, Bale, Graham, Casey, Passlow, Young, Rowe, Pettit, Martin, Bracken, Parker and O'Brien being in attendance. Hopefully, all Urunga-ites keep this October date on their calendars and call in to the hotel owned by another well known Urunga name, Gleeson. Today's managers have continued the work of welcoming patrons since 1927.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
