30/09/2008 11:30:00 AM
Investigations are continuing into a fatal car crash on Hungry Head Road at Urunga on Saturday (September 27). Two fishermen discovered the accident scene about 200m from the Pacific Highway at around 5am on Saturday when they noticed bush at the side of the road was on fire, then they saw a car wreck. Investigators found a man's badly burned body inside. Police say it is likely DNA testing will be needed to identify the person. Speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the accident. Meanwhile, on Friday, (Sept. 26) at around 5.30pm, Dorrigo Ambulance paramedics were called to a motor vehicle collision at Maynards Plains Road. On arrival they found a two-car accident with two patients. One patient still trapped in his vehicle and was suffering from serious leg injuries, this patient was stabilised by Dorrigo and Urunga Ambulance Paramedics with pain relieving medication, intravenous fluids and splinting. This patient was released from the vehicle with the assistance of Dorrigo SES and soon after transported by Ambulance to the Dorrigo Helicopter Pad. The patient was then flown by Tamworth Life Saver Helicopter onto Coffs Harbour Base Hospital for further assessment and treatment. The second patient suffering a shoulder injury was stabilised by paramedics at the scene and then transported first to Dorrigo hospital followed by further Ambulance transport to Coffs Harbour Health Campus. Other Emergency Services attending the scene were Police, local Medical Staff, town and rural fire brigades all (including local bystanders) of whom greatly assisted in this two vehicle motor accident.
