Pipe Band victorious in Queensland

30/09/2008 11:32:00 AM
The members of the Bellinger River District Pipe Band have been busy lately, having competed twice in Queensland over the past month.

Firstly, they competed at the Ipswich Highland Gathering achieving excellent results. The band took first place in the Grade 4 Championship, as well winning the March-Off Drill, Best Ensemble, Best Pipe Corp, and Best Musical Selection.

They followed up this performance last week by winning the Queensland Pipe Band Championships held at Redlands. The band also won awards for Best Ensemble and Best Pipe Corp.

Pipe Major Rod McGrath said, “There were some terrific bands competing at both these Championships, so results like this are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the band members”.

Piping brothers, Rod and Graeme McGrath, and Drummer Simon Want, added to the weekends achievements by winning the State Trio Championship, and 14 year old piper, Amos Fox (pictured), took the State Championship title in both the March and Slow Air Elementary Solos.

The Band are now preparing for the East Coast Pipe Band Championships to be held in Newcastle on October 12th. This contest will see bands from three states competing, and Bellinger River are aiming to continue their success there before finishing the year with the Australian Pipe Band Championships in Sydney on November 2nd.
